MoTeC ADL2 Data/Logger

The MoTeC ADL2 Dash / Logger is a combined LCD Dash and High Performance Data Logger. Various options allow the ADL2 to be configured as a simple stand-alone Dash or to be upgraded to a sophisticated Data Logging and Display system that is fully integrated with a MoTeC Engine Management System (ECU). Integration with the ECU avoids duplication of sensors and allows display or logging of more than 170 ECU channels. The various options may be enabled at any time by entering a password.

Available with or without LCD Display

For those racers who don't require a display to view, the same features and functionality is available without the digital display head.

Customized high contrast LCD display

The digital display on the ADL2 Dash combines all of the gauges on your instrument panel and your data acquisition system into a single compact lightweight information center.

The dash is a custom made reflective LCD display.  It has 3 modes of operation (Race, Practice, and Warm-up) which may be selected by simply pressing a button.   The range of the 70 segment Tacho/Bar Graph is programmable.   All displays may be programmed to display any channel in each display mode, while analysis mode displays statistics of vehicle performance.

A 13 digit alpha numeric display may be used to display any channel or to display warning messages.  A large gear position display is also incorporated.

Choose Backlit or non Backlit

For racers who do not require the backlight feature for nighttime viewing, a non backlit dash is available.

Customizable Alarms

A warning Alarm message and/or warning light may be displayed if any ECU or Dash channel exceeds programmable limits.  This may be used for Low Oil Pressure, High Engine Temperature, Low Battery etc. and can be customized to turn on a different levels. For example 15 psi may be ample pressure up to 2000 rpm but at 9000 rpm you want a minimum of 40 psi. The warning alarms can be tailored to match your requirements at individual rpm points.

Lap times may be displayed when connected to a MoTeC Lap Beacon, or a driver activated switch.  Minimum corner and maximum straight speeds may be displayed giving the driver immediate performance feedback.  Fuel Used or Fuel Remaining may also be displayed.

16MB of Logging memory

The ADL2 is available with up to 16 MBytes of permanent memory for data logging.  Different logging options allow 8Mb or 16Mb to be accessed simply by entering a password.  The first 10 Dash measurement channels may be antialiased from 1000 times a second down to your chosen logging rate. 8 Channels can be logged at 1000 Hz (especially useful for suspension analysis) and the other inputs can be logged at 500Hz.  Four logging modes may be run concurrently (Normal, Fastest Lap and 2 Burst modes) with selectable start and stop logging parameters.

The logged data may be unloaded at very high speeds thanks to the ADL2's USB Data download. In fact up to 16Mb can be downloaded in less than 37 seconds.  The ADL2 has three communication modes, Serial Data In and Out,  a bi-directional High Speed CAN interface and USB for data download.

Wide range of digital and analog inputs

The ADL2 has up to 28 analog measurement inputs for display or logging or Temperatures, Pressures, Position, Movement, Force etc.

The ADL2 also includes 2 optional high accuracy Wide Band Lambda (Air/Fuel Ratio) inputs and up to 4 Digital Inputs for Beacon Marker, etc, 4 speed inputs for Wheel Speed measurement, 4 Switched Inputs and 8 Pulsed or Switched Outputs which may be programmed for Gear Change Lights, Warning Light, Thermatic Fan Control etc.

Power

The ADL2 uses a high speed 32 Bit microprocessor and incorporates a Mil Spec connector.  The control software is Field Updateable.   The ADL2 is built to internationally recognized quality and manufacturing standards.   The ADL2 is not simply a dumb display with all of the logging/control functions carried out in a separate module adding additional weight and complexity.  All of these functions are contained within the extremely compact, lightweight and durable ADL2 package.

Advanced Functionality

The processing power and internal memory resources allow for many advanced functions, additional to those mentioned earlier.  These include flexible condition statements, 2D and 3D control maps and internal math channels.

Analysis of the Data

The Analysis software contains predefined configurations for easy data analysis.  More experienced users will also find a wide range of tools and analysis functions to assist interpretation of the large amounts of data that can be logged.

Screen display formats may be varied to suit all preferences, including user definable graphs, histograms, mixture maps and statistical summaries.  By utilizing these different display methods, users can view data in many formats to obtain accurate, meaningful performance analysis. Track Maps such as the one shown above (in green) can help you determine where on the racetrack you have the greatest advantage and where you may concentrate your effort for the most gain.

Pro Logging Option

The Pro-Logging option includes graph overlays, virtual dash, mathematical functions, XY graphs (scatter plots), Enhanced Track Maps show minimum and maximum speeds, gear change points, throttle position and braking points and many other advanced features.

The software is designed to work on both laptop and desktop computers, thus allowing data to be viewed trackside and taken back to the workshop for further analysis.  All printers are supported to provide high resolution graphics as a permanent record.  The software runs on Windows 95, Windows 98, Windows 2000, ME, XP and  Windows NT.

Accessories

A new range of sensors are now available for use with the ADL2 Data/Logger, to provide extremely high levels of data acquisition.   Infrared Brake Disk Temperature Sensors, Suspension Sensors, Laser Road Speed Sensors, Resistive and Thermocouple Temperature Sensors, Hydraulic Pressure Sensors, Hall and Magnetic Speed Sensors, Lambda (mixture) Sensors and many others are available.

The new MoTeC Lap Beacon Transmitter and Receiver have been designed in conjunction with the ADL2 Data/Logger.  This features high channel count (990), improved optics, low power consumption, multi beacon capability and excellent performance with the Sun close to the horizon.

As with all MoTeC products, customer backup and support is readily available from any of MoTeC's distributors or trained technicians.
